Social Action Organisations

Here are some links to helpful organisations which can provide further information on social action initiatives for a wide range of causes all over the world.

Big Green Jewish

The Big Green Jewish Website is a resource for Jewish people. It is the on-line meeting point between Jewish and environmental ethics. It seeks to educate about climate change and aims to inspire you to make a difference to the planet.

JCORE

For over 30 years JCORE www.jcore.org.uk has led the way in providing a Jewish voice on race and asylum issues to policy-makers, to the press and to the general public. Our aim is to educate and engage the Jewish community in helping to build a cohesive multi-ethnic society in Britain. We have forged enduring links with other minority communities as well as with mainstream organisations, thus also helping to promote a positive Jewish identity in the wider society.

JHub

JHub is a centre of creativity, energy, learning and innovation. It provides office space, meeting rooms and a support network for innovative UK-based Jewish individuals, projects and organisations who are working to contribute meaningfully, in a variety of ways, to the Jewish and wider world.

Mitzvah Day

Mitzvah Day is a day where Jews lead the way, one day a year enjoying giving back, making a difference, all together. Our vision is to reduce hardship and poverty, to help our environment and to bring a little joy all through volunteering – not by fundraising. It is a way for all of us to make our mark regardless of our affiliation, level of religious conviction, wealth, age, sex or nationality. Mitzvah Day is for all those touched by the Jewish community – including Partners from other faiths - building local communities, supporting existing charities and encouraging participation in social action. Mitzvah Day is the focus of enthusiasm, energy and activity in social action throughout the community.

On1Foot

On1Foot is a resource for Jewish social justice educators. It is a searchable online database of 800 (and growing) Jewish texts of all kinds related to issues of social justice. Beyond just finding texts, you can also use On1Foot to build source sheets, discuss texts, and share best practices with other users. On1Foot is a project of the American Jewish World Service.

The Pears Foundation

The Pears Foundation is a UK based charitable foundation investing over £6 million in charitable causes.

Tzedek

Tzedek believes that no one, regardless of their race or religion, should be forced to live with the shame of extreme poverty. We work with partners, projects and communities abroad providing direct support to help local people help themselves. Here in the UK, we provide educators with ready to use lesson plans and activities through our Jewish Global Citizenship Project. This project aims to bring about changes in attitude and behaviour among young Jewish people through education on global issues as part of our Jewish heritage, history, and values.
Jewish Life Education Centre is a project of UJIA, a registered charity in England and Wales No. 1060078 and in Scotland No. SC039181.
